The Challenge

BluVector were the cybersecurity arm of Northrup Grumman, the huge US Defence and Aerospace contractors. In January 2017, they were acquired by the successful private equity firm LLR Partners who wanted to run BluVector as a stand-alone business. They injected $50m to aid growth and development and their advanced network security monitoring and analytics technology is now fast becoming recognised across the USA.

BluVector used the head-hunting services of Finlay James as the challenge was to find their first and most important hire of all, the person who was to really push the technology and strategy to the next level. BluVector needed a Chief Technology & Strategy Officer.

BluVector was finding it challenging to find someone with the knowledge, technical background, evangelist-like personality and someone who has proven experience of developing and leading such an advanced technology such as this. They also needed someone within a good distance of their office in Washington DC.

The Solution

Finlay James set about proactively contacting some of the most recognised and experienced names in the cyber security space across the USA – those who have led small start-up operations technically and developed a product for the market.

A longlist of potential hires with the relevant experience was drawn up and then through various methods including FJ networks, directly calling and social media; a shortlist was established.

The person that was offered the job was one of the initial three introduced to BluVector by Finlay James.

The Outcome

BluVector hired Travis Rosiek, the ex CTO from FireEye who focused on the Federal Government part of the business. He is now already becoming a crucial member of the team and as Chief Technology and Strategy Officer he is making a real difference advancing the technology.

Because the hiring process was so quick, it meant that BluVector were able to put future plans into motion earlier than initially anticipated.
