Featured Consultant - An Interview with Sophie Sever

Featured Consultant - An Interview with Sophie Sever

In the first of our “Featured Consultant” series, we speak to Sophie Sever who joined Finlay James in 2011 and who has recently been promoted to Associate Director!

We wanted to find out more about her, her career so far and what her perfect non-work day would look like!

1. What initially got you into recruitment?

“I fell into recruitment at 16. At school, I wasn’t really what you would call “academic” so when I finished my GCSE’s, I wanted to get out into the world and earn money. I did an NVQ at school and soon after landed my first job as an administrator at an IT recruitment company just down the road from my home. It seemed perfect – I could literally roll out of bed and into work for 9am! When I joined, I had no idea what recruitment was but started learning from the sales team who took me under their wing. After a year of working there, I moved into the recruitment side of things as a resourcer and worked my way up from there! After 6 and a half years, placing IT contractors into the public sector, I was ready for a fresh challenge and met Finlay James – and here I am 6 years later!”

2. What are the best 3 things about working at FJ?

Rewards/Incentives - if you work hard, and do well, you will be rewarded for it! Through a great commission structure, incentives including trips to Ascot and holidays to Berlin and recently Marbella!

Culture - relaxed but hard working with a real family feel.

Great management – who are supportive and have helped me to achieve my goals, including becoming an Associate Director!

3. What sectors do you predominantly work in?

I specialise in placing sales, marketing, presales and technical professionals within digital, MarTech, ecommerce and SaaS companies across the UK and internationally.

4. Describe your perfect, non-work day.

It would start with a lie in! Then probably taking my 18-month old Cockapoo, Fonzo, out for a walk in the park. Having lunch and drinks with my friends and then out again in the evening!

5. Who is your favourite artist/band?

Beyonce. [With no hesitation] I’m obsessed with her! I’ve seen her live five times in the UK and in Paris! I love her music, is a great performer and puts on a great show!

6. Describe yourself in 3 words.

Honest – probably a bit too honest sometimes! Confident and loyal.
